Ol Doinyo Lengai, “Mountain of God” in the Maasai language, is an active volcano located in the Gregory Rift, south of Lake Natron within the Arusha Region of Tanzania, Africa. Part of the volcanic system of the East African Rift, it uniquely produces natrocarbonatite lava.
Pick up from Arusha Airport /Kilimanjaro Airport and drive to Ngaresero village (Lake Natron) with packed lunch. This is about 8 hours of driving. On the way to Oldoinyo Lengai, you will pass to Mto wa Mbu driving through the Great eastern rift valley. See wild animals on the way together with the Maasai tribe. Hopefully, you will arrive afternoon at Oldoinyo Lengai Mountain. There are beautiful public camps around the area of Oldoinyo Lengai. After lunch, you can take an evening walk to the waterfalls and see the Maasai villages in the area. You will have an overnight stay at the Maasai eco-lodge for overnight.
Midnight after a refreshing tea you will drive to the base of the mountain. This is where your climbing adventure starts. This mountain has an elevation of 2,962m, situated south of Lake Natron and on Eastside the Ngorongoro crater. Walking with your guide slowly, the climb is challenging to the summit. The climb takes about 6-7 hours. After arriving at the summit, take pictures for about 30 minutes. After amazing pictures, walk
down to the base o,f the mountain for 3-4 hours. Get picked and transferred to the camp to relax and have lunch. You will enjoy dinner and overnight at Maasai eco-lodge .
In the morning after a warm breakfast, you can walk to Lake Natron. Lake Natron is a salt lake famous for Flamingos breeding. After lunch, you will drive back to Arusha Airport/Kilimanjaro Airport where your adventure ends.
