This alkali lake is the world’s only breeding ground for 1.5 million Lesser Flamingos. Here, you’ll witness millions of these stunning birds, explore the unique environment, visit hot springs, enjoy sundowners and waterfalls, and have the opportunity to climb Mount Oldonyo Lengai—an active volcanic mountain known in the Maasai language as the “Mountain of God.”

ITINERARY

Day 1

Day 1- Pick up in Arusha - Drive to Lake Natron

After an early breakfast, your professional tour guide/driver will pick you up in Arusha to begin your two-day adventure. You’ll enjoy a scenic 4–4.5 hour drive from Arusha to the famous alkali Lake Natron, traveling along rugged roads with views of Oldonyo Lengai Mountain.

Lake Natron is the world’s only breeding ground for over 1.5 million Lesser Flamingos. You’ll have the chance to observe these stunning birds and learn about the unique surrounding environment. The main activity of the day is a visit to Engaresero Waterfalls. By evening, you’ll head to your accommodation for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2

Day 2- Climbing Mountain of God

At around 1:00 am, you’ll drive to the starting point for the climb of Mount Oldoinyo Lengai—the only active volcano in Tanzania, also known in Maasai as the “Mountain of God.” The trek to the summit takes approximately 4 hours, offering spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru, and the Ngorongoro Crater.

After reaching the summit and enjoying the scenery, you’ll descend in the morning for breakfast, lunch, and some relaxation back at camp. For those interested, an optional visit to a Maasai Boma can be arranged in the evening to experience local culture.

Day 3

Day 3 -Flamingo walking tour

After breakfast, you’ll have a final visit to Lake Natron, where you may observe flocks of flamingos and other waterbird species. You’ll also have the chance to walk to Munge Waterfalls for a refreshing swim before returning to your lodge to relax. Later, you’ll be driven back to Arusha, bringing your Lake Natron adventure to a close.
